Stainless Steel Clothes Pegs
We’re passionate about Stainless Steel Clothes Pegs! There’s something really beautiful about the shiny simplicity of stainless steel that makes using Stainless Pegs an everyday pleasure.
Everyone has a clothesline, it’s part of life for us in Australia. And hanging our clothes out to dry has become even more important as we all move to become more conscious consumers and lessen our reliance on fossil fuels. After all, clothes dryers use a lot of energy and to be honest do not as good a job as the bright old Australian sun.
Who can remember the ubiquitous Hills Hoist from their childhood? Or even swinging around on the Hills Hoist Clothesline like a monkey? Those big industrial quality clotheslines with the thick galvanised wire ropes were the place our resident kookaburra came and watched the magpies grabbing a free feed from our dog’s bowl.
We grew up having kids parties underneath the clothesline, or hooking up the hose and having a spinning water park during the long hot summer.
We Are 100% Australian
Unfortunately, as we grow up the clothesline becomes a little less about fun and more about the routine of washing, drying and folding clothes.
And part of this routine is using pegs. And pegs, basically, are not made for Australia’s harsh conditions – full sun all day long, then exposure to wind and rain the rest of the year. So the old wooden pegs aged to a dull grey colour before cracking and falling apart. Then with the arrival of plastic, we all jumped on board with plastic clothes pegs, only to find we had similar problems – faded, sun-cracked plastic and brittle pegs from too much UV light.
Before Stainless Steel Clothes Pegs, there was no alternative. We found ourselves lining up year after year to buy wooden pegs or maybe some of those expensive plastic numbers – but they again didn’t seem to last that much longer. Especially when we ran the mower over them…
Now, with Stainless Steel Pegs, we have hassle free clothes pegs for our clothesline.
Why use Stainless Pegs?
I’m not sure about you – but I’m the kind of person who hangs out the washing and when I bring it back in, I leave the pegs on the line. I don’t come back and actually take the pegs off and put them in a little clothes peg basket.
It’s just the way it is, you know, being busy and having other things to do. So basically my pegs sit on the line all day long, all year round. And yes, they get exposed the “weather” as you might like to call it. Driving rain, belting sun in summer, and even frost and sleet and what not over the cooler months.
And basically there is nothing on the market designed to withstand this kind of abuse other than Stainless Steel Clothes Pegs.
Stainless Steel Clothes Pegs are designed to be easy to use. The amount of finger strength to open the pegs is minimal thanks to the unique design. This is really helpful for people who are not as dextrous as they might like. And it means that you can get a firm, secure grip with your index and thumb without straining yourself.
Being easy to open with your finger strength means people of all ages and abilities can safely use Stainless pegs.
Using Stainless Steel Clothes Pegs
But, wait – just because the Stainless Steel Pegs are simple to open does not mean that they are weak at holding wet clothing. Not at all!
As you can see, Stainless Steel Pegs have a clever clasp point that safely and securely holds the cloth and affixes it tightly to the line itself. This two stage security means your clothes are attached better than ever before to the line. No more flyaway clothes!
Stainless Steel Clothes Pegs are actually pretty big. And again, that’s a good thing!
At a generous 78mm, you’ll find them really easy to open, even easier to open than those pesky plastic pegs.
We’ve also noticed that our 78mm oversize pegs are easier to open and use than smaller size stainless pegs you may see elsewhere. Note how trying to open a little peg uses just your index finger and thumb, whilst our Stainless Steel Clothes Peg has ample room for you to use both your index and middle finger for easy opening. It sounds insignificant, but our older customers swear by it – more space makes for better grip and easier opening.
Our rigorous in house testing facility (read: real life home…) offers multiple opportunities to test these pegs in “real life” and we are impressed. The dense inner spring simply does not get not get tight or stuck – nor does the easy opening feature change after use in the real world.
You can also rest assured that stainless pegs don’t get overly hot, even on the hottest of hot summer days. The reason the pegs stay cool is that the wire has a high surface area to volume ration to dissipate the heat – so even in full sun they will be little warmer than the ambient air temperature – and safe for your delicate hands.
Advantages of Stainless Steel Pegs
The advantage of our oversize 78mm Clothes Pegs is that they are simple to find when you drop them in the grass! Really! And stainless steel pegs have that bright glossy metallic finish so again they are just easy to spot in the grass, no matter how long since you last mowed the lawn…
Leaving your stainless steel pegs on the line day after day is now a real option, and you won’t have to explain yourself for being lazy or anything like that – they are actually DESIGNED to be left out like this. So you never have to worry about your clothes pegs going rusty, or rotting, or getting mouldy or brittle.
Plus, the super usefulness of stainless steel means you can use these pegs for other “non-clothesline” type uses – in the shed or in the kitchen or with camping or fishing. Stainless Steel won’t bend or melt or freeze or snap due to environmental variations.

Another feature of the smooth stainless steel wire design is that the edges are safe and smooth on your clothes – so no catching or pulling of threads – unlike wood and bamboo pegs that splinter and pinch.
The smooth steel acts as a gentle hold for even your most delicate fabrics – and the “STAINLESS” means you are never at risk of discolouration or staining from these metal pegs. Unlike wood or other pegs that can and do leave stains – or plastic pegs with metal clips that leave a rust stain on your fave shirt.
Our Stainless Steel Pegs are made from a single length of stainless steel wire – 309 Marine Grade – which is the highest quality stainless steel for domestic purposes. Marine grade means the steel will not pit, discolour, rust or weaken when exposed to normal domestic conditions like wind, rain sunlight etc. Oh, and not to mention of course these stainless steel pegs are more resilient than other eco-friendly alternatives like bamboo, wood or plastics.
Stainless Steel Pegs will not break or bend or fall out of shape under normal use for years. We are proud to offer a lifetime replacement warranty – so if you do encounter any of these problems (which is in theory quite impossible due to the chemical structure of the stainless steel itself) – all you need do is send back the offending peg and your proof of purchase and we will happily replace the peg.
