Everyone has a clothesline, it’s part of life for us in Australia. And hanging our clothes out to dry has become even more important as we all move to become more conscious consumers and lessen our reliance on fossil fuels. After all, clothes dryers use a lot of energy and to be honest do not as good a job as the bright old Australian sun.
Who can remember the ubiquitous Hills Hoist from their childhood? Or even swinging around on the Hills Hoist Clothesline like a monkey? Those big industrial quality clotheslines with the thick galvanised wire ropes were the place our resident kookaburra came and watched the magpies grabbing a free feed from our dog’s bowl.
We grew up having kids parties underneath the clothesline, or hooking up the hose and having a spinning water park during the long hot summer.

Unfortunately, as we grow up the clothesline becomes a little less about fun and more about the routine of washing, drying and folding clothes.
And part of this routine is using pegs. And pegs, basically, are not made for Australia’s harsh conditions – full sun all day long, then exposure to wind and rain the rest of the year. So the old wooden pegs aged to a dull grey colour before cracking and falling apart. Then with the arrival of plastic, we all jumped on board with plastic clothes pegs, only to find we had similar problems – faded, sun-cracked plastic and brittle pegs from too much UV light.

Our rigorous in house testing facility (read: real life home…) offers multiple opportunities to test these pegs in “real life” and we are impressed. The dense inner spring simply does not get not get tight or stuck – nor does the easy opening feature change after use in the real world.
You can also rest assured that stainless pegs don’t get overly hot, even on the hottest of hot summer days. The reason the pegs stay cool is that the wire has a high surface area to volume ration to dissipate the heat – so even in full sun they will be little warmer than the ambient air temperature – and safe for your delicate hands.
